GoPro has unveiled the Mission 1 series, introducing three new compact cinema-style cameras with a 50MP 1-inch sensor and 8K video recording at up to 60fps. The lineup includes Mission 1, Mission 1 Pro, and Mission 1 Pro ILS, marking a shift beyond the company’s traditional Hero action cameras.
The new series focuses on higher-end video capabilities, combining a 5nm GP3 processor, 10-bit color, and up to 14 stops of dynamic range. It also brings extended battery performance, with over three hours of 4K recording and more than five hours at 1080p, positioning the cameras for longer professional shoots.
GoPro Mission 1 Specifications and Performance
The Mission 1 Pro is the top-tier model, offering 8K video at 60fps, 4K at 240fps, and slow-motion capture up to 960fps at 1080p. Open Gate recording is supported at 8K 30fps and 4K 120fps, enabling full-sensor capture for flexible editing and reframing across formats.

The standard Mission 1 model supports 8K recording at 30fps and retains the same imaging hardware. Across the range, the new GP3 chip includes an AI-based processing unit that improves subject tracking, image clarity, and low-light performance.
Design, Display and Build Changes
The cameras feature a redesigned body with a larger rear OLED display, approximately 14% bigger than previous GoPro flagships. A new 159-degree field-of-view lens is included, along with raised physical buttons designed for better usability in gloves.
Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro models are waterproof up to 20 meters without additional housing, while optional protection extends this to 60 meters. The Mission 1 Pro ILS is weatherproof rather than waterproof due to its interchangeable lens system.
Camera and Imaging Capabilities
All models use a 50MP sensor with larger effective pixel size for improved light capture. They support RAW photo capture and advanced video formats including GP-Log2, HLG HDR, and bitrates up to 240Mbps for reduced compression.

The Mission 1 Pro ILS introduces a Micro Four Thirds mount, allowing compatibility with a wide range of lenses. This shifts GoPro toward a modular camera approach, offering more flexibility for filmmakers and advanced users.
Battery, Audio and Connectivity
The new 2150mAh Enduro 2 battery enables extended recording times, with GoPro stating over three hours at 4K and more than five hours at 1080p under standard conditions. 8K recording duration depends on thermal conditions and airflow rather than a fixed runtime.
Audio has been upgraded with a four-microphone system supporting 32-bit float recording, helping prevent clipping in dynamic environments. Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity enables wireless audio integration, including support for GoPro’s new wireless microphone system.

The Mission 1 series is designed for creators who need higher-quality video in a compact form factor. It targets filmmakers, vloggers, and content producers looking for cinematic output without moving to larger mirrorless systems.
With this launch, GoPro moves closer to competing with advanced compact cameras from DJI and Insta360, particularly in areas such as 8K capture, slow motion, and low-light performance. The interchangeable lens option further expands its positioning in the creator market.
